THIS MONTH'S TIP

 FEBRUARY

AFTER THE RAINS:

Heavy rains wash away important nutrients from soils.

If you have clay soil one of the best things you can do is to apply a dressing of lime to your lawns and gardens. This replaces calcium and addresses increased acidity which heavy rain can cause.

If you have sandy soil, a diluted brew of manure, clay, zinc sulphate, epsom salts, boron, fish emulsion, worm wee and potash is a great tonic for your plants and soil.

Also - especially on slopes -  clear away the mulch and wash off soil that may be stuck to the base of your trees. Trees need air around them so they don't get collar rot.
